Federal Contracting Resources

  • System for Award Management (SAM)

The System for Award Management (SAM.gov) is an official website of the U.S. Government. There is no cost to register on SAM.gov. SAM registration is required of all who wish to contract with the federal government. You can also use SAM to view contract reports and opportunities. We recommend you use the direct link to reach the site instead of using a search engine, due to the proliferation of lookalike sites. For assistance with SAM registration, please visit the Offices to contact your local APEX Accelerator.

  • Unique Entity Identification (UEI)

The The federal government has recently transitioned from using a DUNS number as a unique identifier for entities to using the Unique Entity ID (UEI). When you register in SAM, you will be automatically assigned a UEI.

  • Market Research

Is the government buying what you sell? Which agencies are buying your product or service? How often? In what quantities? You can view contract award reports on SAM, historical spending data on USASpending.gov, as well as information on DLA’s procurement on the DLA Internet Bid Board System (DIBBS). Your local PTAC counselor will assist you with navigating these websites and discovering the best path for your government contracting journey.

  • Government Contracting Codes

The government uses codes to identify the products and services available for government contracting. The North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) provides six-digit numbers to classify the type of work performed or products sold. Other codes that are used for classifying businesses are Product Service Codes (PSC) and Federal Supply Codes (FSC). The two work together to identify the type of work involved in federal government contracting.
